More About Santa Fe NM - Editor's Tips - Weather Maps & Dining

When to go?
The high season in Santa Fe is predominantly July and August. That said, the most pleasant weather and fewer crowds can be found during spring or fall. During those seasons, you'll find mild/warm days and cool nights, but beware - the weather is less predictable and a storm can sneak up on you quickly. If you're heading to a Native American ceremonial dance, most of those are held in summer and around the holidays.

Where to stay?
In Santa Fe, most of the stylish hotels are downtown, while resort ranches and spas are scattered throughout the area. But to experience the essence of Santa Fe, stay in a bed and breakfast near the old city plaza. That said, you really can't find a bad room in the city (presuming you can find your hotel - the layout of Santa Fe is notoriously confusing). If you come during summer, be sure to reserve your accommodation early as vacancies are few and far between.

What to do?
Orient yourself in Santa Fe by walking around the historic area. Start at the central plaza and explore the Palace of the Governors or the Georgia O'Keeffe Museum. Many contemporary artists call Sante Fe home, and the art scene is renowned. A trip to Santa Fe wouldn't be complete without a visit down Canyon Road (the art gallery district) to enjoy some of their galleries. If you have time, get outdoors! Go to a Native American ceremonial dance or head to the Bandelier National Monument, where you can find hiking trails and the amazing Anasazi Native American ruins in Frijoles Canyon. Get there early to arrive before buses full of camera-happy tourists.
