Barbados Vacation Travel

More About Barbados - Editor's Tips - Weather Maps & Dining

When to go?
Like so many Caribbean islands, Barbados receives the most visitors from December through April. The rainy season here is June through November, when positive thinking for sunny skies guarantees you great deals! If you're a music lover, come for the Barbados Jazz Festival in January or the national Crop Over festival in July.

Where to stay?
The West Coast offers the most luxurious and exclusive hotels (as well as private villas, just in case you're in the market). The South Coast in St. James and St. Peters offers a nice variety of lodging choices - from resorts to budget hotels - plus plenty of nightlife.

What to do?
The area known as St. Lawrence Gap is known for the best shopping and dining on Barbados. While most vacationers enjoy the beaches and water-sports, Barbadians themselves adore their cricket matches. Rum titans Malibu and Mount Gay both originated in Barbados and now offer tours of their original distilleries. To catch some local rhythms, stop by the Plantation Garden Theater in Christ Church for the Bajan Roots and Rhythms show ("Bajan" is another word for "Barbadian").
