Leiden Netherlands

Leiden, located on the Old Rhine River in the western part of the Netherlands, is a charming city known for its many museums, canals, beautiful old city centre and as the birthplace of Rembrandt and the Dutch constitution. A lively university town, it overflows with students, cafes, bookstores and cultural events. The university is the oldest in the country and is famous for its many developments including the famous Leyden jar, a capacitor made from a glass container. For a time Leiden held the title The Coldest Place on Earth because of developments in cryogenics.
