Gyangze Tibet (China)

Gyangze is a very small town in the mountains of Tibet known for its monasteries, the most famous being Palkor Choide. Although it was dynamited during the cultural revolution, several monastery buildings remain, the most notable being the rather large stupa (Kubum) with 70 interlocking chapels. Pilgrims spiral through seven ascending levels to reach the highest point representing enlightenment.
