Kauai, Hawaii Vacation Travel

More About Kauai - Editor's Tips - Weather Maps & Dining

When to go?
Known for its fertile green rainforests, lush flora and steep waterfalls, the natural beauty of Kauia is widely acknowledged as an aphrodisiac. So perhaps the best time to visit this Hawaiian island is for an anniversary, honeymoon, or when you just want to awaken your senses... and let romance take its course. From November to March, a little rainfall can give you an excuse to stay in, or tour the local museum. The warmest months are May - September, and the most expensive season runs December through April.

Where to stay?
Throughout the island, there are hundreds of cottages and intimate B&Bs offering local charm - as well as vacation rentals a-plenty. Poipu is the most temperate and popular tourist destination, known for its lovely beaches and watersports. The Coconut Coast offers many mid-priced hotels, as well as shopping and nightlife. Princeville gets that name for a reason; here, be prepared to pay royally for your luxurious North Shore resort.

What to do?
The Na Pali Coast (with Na Pali meaning The Cliffs) is that dreamlike picture of Hawaii you have been waiting your whole vacation to see. Hike, helicopter or sail the coast to take in this stunning proof of natural majesty. For another stunner, head to Waimea Canyon, known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific for its colorful crater that rivals its stateside counterpart.
