Cairo Egypt

Cairo is the capital and largest city of Egypt as well as the largest city in Africa and the Arab world. Cairo is located on the banks and islands of the Nile River in the north of Egypt, immediately south of the point where the river leaves the desert and breaks into two branches into the low-lying Nile Delta region. The oldest part of the city is east of the river and is filled with hundreds of ancient mosques, small lanes and crowded tenements. The western areas, built on the model of Paris in the mid-19th century, are marked by wide boulevards, public gardens, modern architecture, and open spaces. Cairo is also a tourist mecca due to its proximity to the Pyramids of Giza.
