Florida Gulf Coast Vacation Travel

When to go?
Endless sandy beaches and perpetual warm weather make the Gulf Coast of Florida an ideal vacation destination all year. That said, summer is hot and humid, and anywhere inland without the ocean breeze can be unbearable. Couple this with hurricane season (June through November), and the best time to be in Florida quickly becomes any time except the height of summer.

Where to stay?
Escape from the hustle and bustle of Tampa and head to quieter St. Petersburg, with its charming downtown waterfront. The place to stay here is in hotels along the beach all the way up to Clearwater. For a less urban experience, just West of Destin, the Gulf Islands National Seashore on the Florida Panhandle has escaped commercial development. That said, you're never more than a few steps away from your resort to incredible shopping.

What to do?
When you hit the links at any one of a seemingly countless number of challenging golf courses in the Tampa / St. Petersburg area, beware of resident alligators! If the Emerald Coast is more your style, the viridian waters on the powdery, white sandy beaches of Panama City and Destin will leave you breathless. If you tire of building sand castles, remember that Destin was originally a fishing town and still holds firm to its roots - test your sea legs and go deep sea fishing on a chartered boat.
