Shenandoah National Park

Shenandoah National Park in Virginia is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the eastern United States. The park's only public road, Skyline Drive, runs along the spine of the Blue Ridge Mountains the entire length of the park. From trailheads near the road or from the visitor centers at Big Meadows and Dickey Ridge, hikers can access more than 500 miles of trails, including over 100 miles of the Appalachian Trail. The lush, beautiful forests of the Appalachians carpet one of the oldest mountain ranges in the world. Many of the hiking trails allow visitors to this national park a rare treat - permission to hike with their dogs. However, the most scenic and popular hikes, including Stony Man, which ends in a cliff with a beautiful overlook, and the hike to Dark Hollow Falls, do not allow pets. More than a million people visit the park every year by car; Skyline Drive features 75 overlooks with stunning views. Camping, bicycling, and horseback riding are also popular activities in the park. Overnight lodging in the park should be reserved months in advance at Skyland Resort, Big Meadows (a historic lodge), or Lewis Mountain (rustic cabins). Hiking cabins in the backcountry can also be reserved for those traveling hut to hut. Current Internet Travel Offers for Shenandoah...
