San Diego California Vacation Travel |

When to go? Temperate year-round, is there a bad time to visit San Diego? Perhaps. In May and June, coastal clouds can linger longer than beach-goers would want. You can typically find the sun by venturing a few miles inland. Summers typically draw more tourists, but "winter" weather in San Diego is still often warm enough to enjoy the beach.

Where to stay? When selecting San Diego lodging, you can orient your vacation towards the Pacific Ocean (beach activities, Sea World, etc.) or towards the Downtown / Balboa Park areas (San Diego Zoo, museums, etc.). For the beach, look for hotels and resorts in the communities of Coronado, Ocean Beach, Mission Beach, La Jolla and Del Mar. The landmark Hotel del Coronado is worth a visit, even if you don't stay there. For the Downtown Balboa Park look for boutique hotels and inns in Gaslamp and Bunker Hill neighborhoods.

What to do? The San Diego Zoo, Sea World or the beach? They are all worth a visit. Note that admission to various museums in Balboa Park is free on Tuesdays. Head to the Gaslamp District for live music and the bar scene, or make a run for the border! Tijuana is just 30 minutes from downtown San Diego. Note that rental car companies may not allow you to take the car across the border.
