Northern California Vacation Travel

When to go? Northern California is at its best in September and October, particularly in the Wine Country, with the best weather of the year and fewer tourists than summer. March through August is great too, but you can expect fog to blow through the coastal areas in the evenings and mornings. Think twice before going between January and March, when rain can put a damper on activities. Whatever time of year, bring a sweater and light jacket, evenings are always cool in northern California.

Where to stay? San Francisco is the heart of Northern California. From there you venture North to the wine country and Napa / Sonoma / Mendocino, or south to the famed golf and ocean side attractions of Monterey Bay / Carmel / Big Sur. The entire area is loaded with charming inns, bed & breakfasts and spa resorts, so treat yourself to a romantic setting.

What to do? Wine tasting, golf, hiking, sightseeing, dining, ballooning, and so and so on are all wonderful and readily available in Northern California. The easier question to answer is what can't you do. The Coastline Northern California is cold and windy so don't plan to spend too much time at the beach. The Pacific water is even more hostile with icy temperatures, rip tides and sharks.
