Montreux Switzerland





Montreux is a small town in Switzerland located on Lake Geneva at the foot of the Alps. Surrounded by vineyards and snowcapped mountains, it is an idyllic setting and a perfect starting point for hikers looking to explore the nearby peaks. Montreux hosts several festivals, the most notable being the annual Montreux Jazz Festival. The rock band Deep Purple made Montreux famous with their song "Smoke on the Water" which tells the events of 1971, when a Frank Zappa fan with a flare gun set the Montreux Casino on fire. Notable residents, past and present, include Vladimir Nabokov, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Igor Stravinsky, and Pyotr Iliych Tchaikovsky.
