More About Montreal - Editor's Tips - Weather Maps & Dining

When to go?
For the seasonally brave, enjoy the enchantment of Montreal during Christmastime and visit Ogilvy's famously decorated shop windows. Winters in Montreal are vivid and magical, though if you are not up for wintry temps, you can hide away in the huge Underground City with its hotels, restaurants, stores, and miles of tunnels. Otherwise, July and August promise a pleasant summer in this Canadian city livened with street fairs and festivals.

Where to stay?
Most luxury hotels are located in downtown Montreal, where you can find dozens of restaurants, stores, and theatres. Most are within walking distance of St. Catherine Street, Montreal's most popular shopping district. East Downtown promises many popular mid-to-high range hotels near Sherbrooke Street, which is known for its amazing art galleries. For Old World charm, stay in Old Montreal. Here, you won't find many B&Bs but you'll want to nest in any of the recently opened, chic hotels, or relive historic magic at the Hotel Pierre du Calvet.

What to do?
In Montreal, "The Paris of North America," shoppers will find themselves among a parade of international boutiques and must visit the world famous Underground City's trendy stores and bargains galore. Afterwards, satisfy your hunger on a Culinary Pleasures tour through Old Montreal or Chinatown. If you're more adventurous, head to the Old Port and go on an Old Montreal Ghost Tour.
