Miami South Beach Florida Vacation Travel |
More About Miami / S. Beach - Editor's Tips - Weather Maps & Dining |

When to go? When the snow hits the Northern U.S., its residents hop flights to Florida's beaches. If you must visit during this peak winter season, try a non-holiday week(end). Better yet, just wait to sun your buns in the full rays of spring or summer (pack sunscreen!). Miami is particularly busy for Art Deco Weekend in January and for Urban Beach Week around Memorial Day. Basically, this city gets busy with events year-round - think Orange Bowl and Calle Ocho - remember to check the calendar before booking your vacation.

Where to stay? For the bold and beautiful, South Beach boasts a hot late-night scene and trendy hotels. Try a boutique art-deco charmer or just splurge on a sweet hotel. Some of the larger luxury chains (Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental) located their lavish outposts in Miami's downtown. For those in search of a green golf getaway, the Doral Resort packs five championship courses. Lastly, motel-devotees can find less-expensive digs around Miami Beach.

What to do? To take in the pastel-perfect, curve-cornered architecture of Miami, enjoy a walking tour starting at the Art Deco Welcome Center. Next, experience Little Havana by savoring a Cuban sandwich or fragrant Dominican cigar. If nightlife's your thing, then South Beach - with its pulsating rhythms and caliente clubs - may just tempt you to skip that flight home. Wake up in time for Sunday brunch at the glamorous Biltmore, Nikki's bling-bling Beach Club or at Sundy's Victorian mansion. Or, if your appetite is for nature, head to The Everglades.
