Lefkada is an island in the Ionian Sea on the west coast of Greece. Many believe that several passages in the Odyssey point to Lefkada as the inspiration for Homer's Ithaca. The island is known for its stunningly beautiful beaches and diverse architecture due to its history under Italian, French, British and Turkish rule. Its most famous beach, widely considered one of the best in Europe, is Porto Katsiki.
