When to go? The priciest times to visit Jamaica are December through April; in other months you'll enjoy a notable discount on air and hotel rates. Montego Bay holds its Jazz Fest in January, with Reggae Sumfest heating it up irie style in July and August. March, April and May offer up Carnival celebrations.

Where to stay? Negril, Montego Bay and Ocho Rios are the main resort towns of Jamaica. Negril is always topping the "best beaches" list, with its north end offering all inclusive resorts, and its southern part offering smaller, family-run hotels. Montego Bay (MoBay) is bustling with activity, including world class golf resorts. MoBay even has its own airport. Ocho Rios is the main dock for cruise ships and also boasts four and five star resorts.

What to do? Jamaica's recreational activity list is long; you can bird-watch, dive, snorkel, mountain bike, river-raft, play tennis and visit Jamaican coffee plantations. If you're in or near Ochos Rios, you simply must hike up the waterfalls at Dunn's River Falls. Most resorts on Jamaica include reggae bands as entertainment, yet musical waters run far deeper here. Ask your concierge to arrange a nighttime adventure into Kingston to check out Jamaica's famous dancehalls - or witness the roots of Bob Marley by taking a bus tour of "The King's" boyhood home and burial ground.
