When to go? Hilton Head Island visitors will find mild temperatures all year long, with winter lows around 50 degrees and summer highs of about 85, hence why it is such a popular snowbird destination. Room rates fall between November and March, so if your schedule permits, a vacation during the off season will allow you to spend those hard earned dollars at the outlet stores instead of on your room. That said, peak season is summer when the beaches are full of families and outdoor sports and art festivals abound.

Where to stay? Hilton Head offers some of the finest accommodations in the South, usually at premium prices. Several of the hotels and inns on the island are listed on the Nation Register of Historic Places and offer luxurious rooms and gourmet meals. Alternatively, the most personal way to experience Hilton Head is through renting a vacation home, condo or villa, which can accommodate larger groups and families. Many of the resorts offer packages that cater to the many different activities and things to do in Hilton Head, so choose your hotel based on which has the most fun in store.

What to do? Hilton Head Island is known foremost as a family beach destination, but closely following is its reputation for great golf. Start your beach vacation in Hilton Heady by lounging in the sun and sand, but beware - the area is known to have jellyfish washing up on shore, so watch your step! After your fill of the sun, take a stroke or two on one of the 24 golf courses on Hilton Head Island. After your full day, relax at the shops and restaurants in Harbour Town (part of the Sea Pines resort). Or stop by the famous Salty Dog Cafe for a bite to eat and one of their renowned t-shirts.
