Grand Canyon, Arizona Vacation Travel |

When to go? The South Rim of the Grand Canyon is open all year, drawing the most visitors during the spring and summer vacation seasons. Be aware, it is not unusual for it to snow on the South Rim through March. The more remote and less crowded North Rim is closed mid October to mid May due to snow accumulations.

Where to stay? Hotels and lodging within Grand Canyon National Park are managed by a private company, Xanterra Parks & Resorts. Reservations can be made online. The historic lodges, particularly the El Tovar Hotel, are well worth a visit, even if you are not staying there. Lodging is also available in nearby Tusayan, but you have to leave the sanctity of the Park to get there and it generally will not save you any money.

What to do? Unless you have planned a rafting or pack trip down into the Canyon, your best bet for experiencing the magnificent of the Grand Canyon is to take a short trail hike away from the lodges and parking lots. The Rim trail is easy to access and mostly level. If you are in good health and properly equipped, the top sections of the Bright Angel Trail and South Kaibab Trail are popular too. Heed all trail signs and advisories, the Grand Canyon can be deceptive and dangerous.
