River Ganga India |

|
The Ganges is the river of India and has drawn uncounted millions to her banks since the dawn of history. The story of the Ganges, from her source to the sea, from old times to new, is the story of Indian civilization and culture, of the rise and fall of empires, of great and proud cities, and of adventures of man. Hindu belief holds that bathing in the river causes the forgiveness of sins and drinking the water with your last breath will take your soul to heaven. The Ganges Basin with its fertile soil is instrumental to the agricultural economies of India and Bangladesh. Chief crops cultivated in the area include rice, sugarcane, lentils, oil seeds, potatoes, and wheat.
