When to go? Because it offers so many affordable vacation choices, the Dominican Republic attracts tourists year-round. The high season here is November through April; the hurricane season is June through November. The best deals in the Dominican Republic are found in the off-season windows of May, June, September and October - when their legendary annual Jazz fest takes place in Puerto Plata.

Where to stay? Since the Dominican Republic boasts the largest inventory of lodging in the entire Caribbean, you'll always find a room here. Punta Cana is the choice for most families and the budget conscious, thanks to the vast number of all-inclusive resorts. Puerto Plata and La Romana are considered to be the best beaches. Cabarete originally attracted the surfing crowd, but now has hotels that offer a quieter vacation spot. Santo Domingo is a bustling city, full of hotels, culture, and chaos too.

What to do? The Dominican Republic offers almost every vacation activity you can think of. Punta Cana-Bávaro has the longest stretch of sand and beach in the Caribbean, with windsurfing, volleyball, golf, deep sea diving, and horseback riding all easily accessible. Dominicans like to dance the night away to their beloved meringue and bachata music - why not join them at least one night of your vacation? If you're in the capital, take in a baseball game at Quisqueya stadium.
