When to go? One of the fabulous facts about Curacao is that it's outside of the hurricane belt, so feel free to plan your vacation around your schedule! Come for Curacao's annual sailing regatta in January, or Carnival which continues through February. This island's cultural and activity calendar is surprisingly full, so you can relax knowing that some form of entertainment awaits.

Where to stay? A small Dutch island off the coast of Venezuela, Curaçao offers intimate hotels, inns, and plantation guest-houses. In the Piscadera area, you'll find chain hotels like Marriott, Hilton, and Clarion - as well as bungalows and a few exceptional hotels. The island's largest resort is the all-inclusive Breezes SuperClubs, near the Seaquarium. A few resorts specialize in dive packages and certification - simply search online.

What to do? Go elsewhere for glam - Curaçao's appeal lies in its cultural crossroads, historical roots and its exceptional diving. A Caribbean seaport with candy-colored colonial architecture, the capital of Willemstad was made for walking. Two must-tours are the Hura Kulanda museum, featuring the Caribbean's largest collection of artifacts from the African slave-trade, and the Western Hemisphere's oldest synagogue (in use since 1651).
