Bermuda Vacation Travel |
When to go? Set in the Atlantic (not the Caribbean!), Bermuda is a convenient two-hour getaway for New Yorkers and other East Coast Americans. The season here runs fairly continuously; summertime makes for popular family beach getaway, and winter brings the golf and spa crowd. Rates drop from November through March. In August and September, beware of hurricanes.

Where to stay? Most accommodations in Bermuda line its South Shore, which includes popular beaches like Horseshoe Bay, Warwick and Elbow Beach. The island offers a range of lodging options, from family-friendly to luxurious outposts like the Mandarin Oriental and the Fairmont. Popular options are "cottage colonies," pastel cottages clustered around a central clubhouse or dining room, where you're sure to meet fellow travelers. Individual guest houses, B&Bs and inns are your most charming bets for your stay on the island.

What to do? Known for their proper attire and respect for protocol, Bermudans wear shorts a maximum of two inches above knee-level and forbid bikini wearing beyond 25 feet away from the ocean! The good news about Bermuda's laws is that they've also prevented gaudy billboards, chain stores and high-rise developments. So come to Bermuda for its pink-cottage charm, gorgeous gardens, high teas, warm turquoise waters, coral-tinted sand beaches, maritime history and world-class golfing... and perhaps an occasional rum swizzle.
