I spent Christmas and new Years 2007-2008 on Bora Bora, Moorea, and Tahiti. I can’t explain how much I want to go back and live under a coconut palm. It was amazing but one can only stand so much beauty. :) Yes, it rained a lot while we were there but I still got a major sun burn in a thunder storm while feeding sharks. So, water resistant sun screen is essential. Bring your own fins, mask and snorkel if you plan to do a lot of it. Sure, you can borrow it there but it ranges from complementary to huge fees per hour and you never know for sure how clean it really is. Circle island tours are a great way to get your bearings but since there is only one road around the islands renting a car will not have horrific results but check with the hotel first. Bora Bora is more rugged than you might think.
The Intercontinental Bora Bora Thalasso & Spa is THE place to go but forget about a budget. Its super high end and Totally worth it!
